She's so cute!

Ashley had a well check yesterday and is growing great! She is up to 20 inches, 9 pounds even. Such a little pork chop. She is pretty close to already outgrowing her newborn clothes. The only rough spot was her cord fell off Saturday and wasn't quite healed all the way so the doc had to cauterize it. That was a bit traumatic but hey you do what you gotta do. Next check will be her 2 month and it'll be immunization time again. Oh kill me now. The things babies have to suffer through.

And don't you just love that paci? She got it from one of Tommy's teammates. And check out the headband and shoes? So stinkin' cute!

Big News

Or little news...I hit normal weight on the Wii Fit today. 12 days postpartum no less. Rock on! So yay I don't have to hear the "that's overweight" with the dreaded music anymore. ;) Oh and before you yell at me, I'm just doing the body test I am NOT working out. The pounds are just melting away yet I can't satiate my appetite. Lucky me.

Ashley has a minor cold it seems. She has some majorly productive sneezies and I've used the sucker bulb a few times but she doesn't seem too bothered by it and is thankfully eating and sleeping okay. I would have freaked out with this 8 years ago but now I know colds are part of the job description. Fun stuff. I think she is growing like a weed and seems to be getting longer and chunkier. I will have to take some more pictures soon before you all don't recognize her.

Awe Crap!

So I'm sitting in front of the tube and writing out birth announcements when I just noticed that we didn't have them put the darn Birth Date on them!!! DOH!!!! So now the question of the day...do I send them out like so or pay the $25 and get them redone? $25 is no big deal, that's probably what I'll do. Maybe I'm more tired than I think, but still blissfully happy with my new baby. But seriously, how did I forget the birth date???????

Oh love and an Austin update

Ashley is doing wonderful! We just adore her and love having her as part of the family. She had her check up on Tuesday and is almost back to her birth weight at 8lb 2oz. I'm sure she is back up already. She is a great sleeper and champion nurser and just a very calm baby. So easy to love! This morning Julie came and picked me up and we went to the children's mass. She was a small celebrity there of course and we then went and visited the individual classrooms too. It was GREAT to see all the staff and students at St. Elizabeth! She has actually been out quite a bit this week. Joe and I took her to her well check then had to kill some time waiting for a prescription to be filled so we went to eat at Bob Evans and toured Babies R Us. Joe insisted we buy a pink bouncy chair, you know the gender neutral one I got for Tommy's shower is just not good enough for our Ashley. The house has been pinked out and Joe is talking about redoing her room from Pooh to Princess's. Can you say spoiled? Meanwhile her forest green carpet is the nicest in the house and could be the first to be pulled up. Wednesday she got to go to Austin's cardiologist appointment in our first family outing together. Yesterday my Mom and Aunt took us to eat at Red Lobster. Yums! She definitely draws a crowd when we are out. Thankfully I think cold/flu season is over. Happy Spring!

In other news I need to update on Austin's IEP last week and his visit to the cardiologist this week.

IEP - I'd been nervous about what to do next year, repeat K or on to 1st. He's actually done very well this year and I don't know why I get these doubts but his teacher is certain the best move is 1st grade. She emphasized that he would be very bored with another year of K. He has really learned a lot this year. He is nowhere near top of his class but she said he's keeping up fine academically and has some very good skills and takes his work very seriously. So that is good news. His physical goals are coming along okay as well. Righty is pretty much a helping arm, the hand is I don't want to say a lost cause but it's only going to be an assist and the function is not coming too well. He is now learning ways to overcome this. He can confidently undress completely if there are no buttons or snaps and can dress himself completely usually too if it's a short sleeve shirt. He's doing well with his day to day functions. He will continue to get OT/PT through the ISD and really likes his therapists. He doesn't like missing out on his regular class though. So overall things are well and he is off to the rigorous 1st grade!! Wow! His reading skills are definitely improving as he has easily memorized all this sight words and is now starting to sound out some simple words. He loves books and reading so that is half the battle. We will work on it a lot this summer.

Cardiologist - That appointment went well. He only goes once a year because of a heart murmur that was caused when they did his ablation when he was 2 days old. This is the appointment I dread and fear so much. Hearts are just so tender. Joe got to go to this appt. since I can't drive so it was good for him to see Dr. Zreik too. He got kind of choked up thinking about the rough start Aus had and how Ashley's experience has been so perfect. Joe thanked Dr. Z again for that birthday when he stayed by Austin's side for almost 12 hours before deciding to airlift him to U of M. The doctor says he remembers it like it was yesterday because nothing was working and it was such an odd case, worst he has seen. The U of M docs said it was the worst they had seen in about 25 years and that kid was 5. Poor Aus, such a rough row to hoe sometimes. His murmur has shown no change which is awesome. Every year the doc reminds me though that we have daily meds in our future and a surgery for a valve replacement. We will just be hopeful that it is many years and maybe decades down the road before we go through that. I'm sure whether he is 10, 20, 30 or beyond it will be heart wrenching to have to watch him go through that. For now we will just hope that he can stay the course and hopefully in 20 years the technology is even better than it is today. We are lucky that he has absolutely no restrictions, he can play as rough as he wants and can ride the wickedest ride at Disney! Yeah!

No shocker

But I can't sleep anymore. I went to bed dog tired at 10:30 and fell right asleep and again as seems the norm was up intermittently very often. I finally couldn't sleep anymore at 2:20 and just laid awake for an hour thinking about the big day ahead. Joe starting stirring about 3:15 so we talked until about 3:45 before I finally got my shower. I'm sure many of you that have been through this understand the huge range of emotions going through our minds right now. I swear time is standing still.

I can't believe March 13th is finally here. July seems SO SO SO long ago!

Gotta be to the hospital at 6, c-section for 8. I so hope that everything goes nice, smooth, and easy and I'm somehow not still preggers this afternoon. I'm ready to meet this little bugger. Joe will keep you all posted live via twitter either on his blog or directly on twitter. www.twitter.com/netpappy

HAVE A HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH!

Triple Surprise

Well today was my last full day of work. My students surprised me with another little shower. Amy made some wonderful spaghetti, the kids brought other goodies and I got some nice practical gifts. I got some diapers, wipes, 2 sleepers, bottle brush, and a few toys. I was also given a nice angel holding a baby figurine, very nice. I got a great card with all kinds of neat messages both humorous and sweet. The kids are awesome; teaching is really the greatest profession.

The Joe's a No-Go

A heartbreaking 5-4 loss for the Blizzard today. It was such a close game and no one was ever up by 2. It really could have gone either way. Tommy played but wasn't 100% by any means. He wasn't too much of a liability though playing for an even plus/minus +1/-1. The coaches actually played Tommy a lot which surprised me because he just didn't have it. I will say he played better at the end of the game then the beginning. Maybe he was nerved up? I am proud that he went out there, I don't know if it was the right parenting choice and if it wasn't such an important game we wouldn't have done it.

We went out to eat with a few other team members and Tommy still seems to be doing well. So maybe we have finally kicked this illness. I sure hope so it's been a long week. I'm ready to move on from illness focus to baby focus. Time to get our newest family member here.
