Med Express Update

Well Joe brought home 1/2 a pharmacy practically. I'm really glad Joe took him in. They gave Tommy a strong antibiotic shot in both legs and 300 mg of Motrin and besides achy legs now, he looks much perkier and his fever is gone. Hooray! He was even hungry enough for a stop at McDonald's on the way home. The doc says it's an acute sinus infection. Grr!!! He should have been on an antibiotic all week! The doc also said no hockey for a week. :( Oh well, I just want him better.

So what he has at home is continuing the tylenol and motrin for fever, flonase, claritin, zithromax, and mucinex. And bad news, Tommy is horrible about taking medicines. So not cool. It's going to be a battle. But at least I feel like we are on the up and up. Just got the first rounds of meds in and lo and behold he quickly pukes them up. Oh fun fun! Lord Help Me! How do you get better when you puke up your medicine?

Oh and above all that he still has a classic case of the flu. Next year he'll be getting a flu shot for sure.

Ugh! That's alot of meds for one little man to take! I hope he does better with them going forward and bounces back quickly! I hope the rest of you stay germ free too.

You may need to chase the meds down with a little applesauce or pudding. Hopefully Tommy is on the fast track to wellness and back to playing hockey that he loves next week.
And I agree with Sheila - may the rest of you dodge this flu/infection.

Thanks Sheila and Julie, last night was better but the antibiotics have made him nauseous and he had the Big D overnight. I was cleaning up puke at 5:30 this morning and Joe got to clean the bathroom that he destroyed around 3 am but waited until this morning which was way worse. Hehe...It was a disaster. And his fever is back. :( But thankfully only a 102 and he has been able to keep tylenol down and some sips of water. He is still worlds better than yesterday so we'll take it.

Joe just took off for hockey practice, he's having withdrawals.

I need to get a move on and disinfect this house. So not like me to clean but I guess it's necessary. Hopefully somehow the rest of us can escape this nastiness.

Boy o boy! Glad he finally has some medicine! Hopefully since he has to take so much, he might be able to become better at taking it?

Sorry about the hockey, I know that you guys were looking forward to it! Hopefully they win so Tommy can play at the Joe!

Take care!

Dawn try having him take the meds at different times so it's not all at once. My boys both had trouble taking meds. I started asking for the shots so,I knew they got some medication. I hope he feels well soon.

Thanks Amy & Jill - It's been a battle, we are going to rotate the meds a bit today so hopefully he can keep them down. Icks... What age do the kids start getting to take pills? That would be better I think but I'm sure he'd gag on those too. I couldn't take pills until I was an adult.

Dawn a lot of medications are now available in chewables just need to ask the doctor to write the script for them instead.

I hope he feels better fast and that nobody else gets sick. Poor kiddo.

Poor guy and what a rough night you all had! Drew still isn't able to swallow a pill and he's 12! I think it's a mental thing though! If he needs meds, we get the chewable or the liquid. Bryce is my stickler about taking meds other then amoxacilian (sp) he LOVES that but anything else, he needs a glass of water or clear pop of some sort, or he won't even attempt a med! Hope you all stay germ free!

Thanks Renee and Sherri - The chewables would probably be as problematic if they taste horrible. It's all about taste. Thing is it's over so quick, just shoot it down and chase!

Overall today has been a good day. His fever hasn't been back since the tylenol this morning and he's been up playing, and had 1/2 a salami sandwich. Moons better than yesterday, maybe tomorrow he'll be moons better than today...Please, please!!

That's great news no fever since this morning and he is up playing and eating a bit!!! I hear you on the chewables - worked better to go from liquid to pills with my guys as long as the pills weren't horse pills. Thanks for the update.

Thanks Julie, he'll get through. Unfortunately the fever finally crept up to 102 again and he has been in bed since 6:30. It was still a better day. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better.

Remember fevers always peek in the evening! I always put a cool wash cloth on the boys heads when they have a fever and they sleep with it on at night. ~my mom always did that to me~ I think it works! Good luck

Poor kiddo! It stinks to be sick and that is a lot of meds. I hope that it helps and he feels better soon!

Thanks Kiera and Sherri - Today he seems good. No fever, just coughing like crazy and BEGGING to go to Dearborn to play today. Joe is gung ho, I just don't know.
